Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why would I have the ECU remapped?

There are a number of reasons why you might want to remap the ECU (Engine Control Unit) on your vehicle and not all the reasons are to make your vehicle faster as you might think.

  • Increase the Power and Torque of the engine. Release the untapped power which has been deliberately restricted by the manufacturers to accommodate the variation in fuel, oil and irregular service and maintenance intervals.
  • You might want to increase engine and fuel efficiency which will increase the overall fuel economy.
  • Removal of the Speed Limiter to experience the full extent of the engine for use on the track for instance.
  • Remapping can improve the throttle response making the driving experience more engaging.
  • Improve driving dynamics. A vehicle may require more power and Torque at lower RPM to assist with towing for example.

What is actually involved?

If your vehicle has an On-Board Diagnostics Port, we will update your Engine Control Unit via this method. Once connected we can carry out the update which is specifically encoded and matched to your vehicle. We firstly take a copy of your existing ECU settings and store them for reuse should you wish to return your vehicle to the manufacturers standard settings in the future. We then upload the new mapping software to the ECU. The whole process doesn't take any longer than a couple of hours in most cases.

What are the expected gains in power?

This varies from vehicle to vehicle. The most significant gains in BHP and Torque are Turbo based engines. However, between 6 and 20% can be gained from a normally aspirated engine, but again this depends on the vehicle.

Do you have Rolling Road Results to prove your claims?

All of the software has been provided by "Evolve Automotive" and has been extensively tested on the Rolling Road before released to the general public. Evolve have undertaken many Rolling Road test in the production of their maps and therefore any claimed increase in power can be verified.

Will the remapping damage my engine?

There has not been any reported instances where the Evolve software has directly caused any damage to any vehicle which has undergone the upgrade. Although it is possible, it is extremely unlikely that you will experience any such failure. If for any reason it can be proved that the installed software has caused any damage to the engine, we undertake to repair your vehicle free of charge.

Will the Remapping invalidate my warranty?

The software is undetectable by the dealers.

How long does it take?

For those updating the ECU via the OBD port it should take no longer than 2 hours.

Do you offer a mobile service?

Yes. Please call us to discuss your requirements.

How will the remap effect my insurance?

Insurance companies view performance upgrades differently, so it is a good idea to ask your insurer before you have the upgrade carried out.
